The Assignment
But when Gus and his partner Christian Lawler try to retrieve data proving their biofeedback device works, they're expelled from Georgia Cancer Center on trumped-up charges.
Forty-five of their devices have vanished, yet suddenly, a leak from Georgia Cancer Center floods social media: miraculous recoveries from cancer that Dr. Marco Tanzilla, Dr. George Slayton Jr., and Dr. Clair Pogue can't explain. Are they covering up, or being set up? Someone is desperate to bury the truth.
The conspiracy runs deeper than Gus imagined.
Pharmaceutical giants, hospital administrators, and government officials have built trillion-dollar empires on human suffering. They've suppressed cancer cures before—and killed the researchers who created them. Fifteen years ago, they murdered Gus's father with a yacht bomb when he got too close to the same breakthrough. Now they're coming for the son.
Caught between FBI protection and international killers, between his growing love for Italian fashion designer Gina Marchitello and his duty to humanity, Gus must navigate surveillance operations, media manipulation, and family secrets that span four generations.
His uncle Henry, an economist at the Federal Reserve, warns that curing cancer could collapse the world economy. Conspirators offer him wealth beyond measure to walk away. His adopted mother begs him to flee to safety.
But Gus has seen too much suffering to quit now.
In hospital lobbies filled with dying patients, in the haunted eyes of a young Georgia fan in a wheelchair, in the desperation of families bankrupted by medical bills—he knows what's at stake, and he's in love.
What began with a Jewish engineer's desperate gamble as WWII erupted has become something far more dangerous than Dr. David Primack ever imagined. Gus kept his research alive, facing a terrifying possibility: completing The Assignment may stop cancer and start the next world war.

Advance Reader Reviews for "The Assignment"
Dr. Mueller has crafted a compelling story that kept me turning pages well into the night. The Assignment combines cutting-edge cancer research with family secrets dating back to Nazi Germany, creating a thriller that feels both timely and deeply personal.
What hooked me were the characters—especially Gus, the determined young engineer, and his relationship with Gina, the brilliant Italian woman who becomes his anchor in increasingly dangerous circumstances. Mueller doesn't just give us good guys and bad guys; these characters feel real, with genuine motivations and flaws that make you care about their fates.
The medical conspiracy elements are fascinating without being overly technical, and the historical connections add layers of intrigue that unfold beautifully throughout the story. I appreciated how Mueller balances science with genuine human drama—grieving families, ethical dilemmas, and the very real question of what happens when you threaten a multi-billion dollar industry.
This is the kind of book that makes you think while keeping you entertained. The pacing never lets up, and when you feel you have things figured out, another revelation changes everything. If you enjoy medical thrillers with heart and intelligence, this one delivers on every level.
Highly recommended for fans of medical thrillers who want compelling characters, authentic science, and a conspiracy that feels frighteningly plausible.
This story seamlessly blends drama, romance, and thriller elements so well that it can't be classified as just one genre. The character development of Gus, Christian, Gina, and Donna Sheehan enhances the storyline—you start feeling like you're part of Gus's family and find yourself rooting for him to succeed. His strong passion and moral character make him a compelling protagonist.
The story feels very believable, and I've actually thought that there might be a cure for cancer out there somewhere, but certain groups aren't allowing it to surface. Mueller taps into that suspicion brilliantly.
I honestly didn't want this book to end and hope the author will continue Gus's journey in future books. This is precisely the kind of medical thriller that keeps you thinking long after you've finished reading.

I could not put "Jackpot" down. Gus realizes early, that he is having a hard time resisting the seductress and needs to distant himself. But the seductress is delusional, despite evidence to the contrary. Gus remains at the medical engineering firm after graduation to continue to work on his invention. Medical researchers and others involved hold the key to his future and the future of his invention. I just finished Jackpot for the second time, and for the second time, I cried. I cried because after being with this amazing couple through good times and bad they survived and excelled because of love! Mueller's use of words helps the reader become totally involved with the characters and their surroundings. You will travel and experience mind provoking adventures which will question your own desires. This piece of literature will keep your interest - it was hard for me to put it down after the first few pages. There is mystery, love, suspense, action, and intrigue. You will not regret giving this book at try. I'm ready for a mini-series! There is so much more to be experienced concerning this couple.
I was lucky to get an advance copy of this fabulous book. Once I started reading I could NOT put it down. If you were a fan of the Thornbirds, Rich Man Poor Man, Shogun or any John Grisham novels you will absolutely love Jackpot....personally I can't wait until it becomes a mini series or movie......You could pick up this book and start at page 25 or page 50 or any page and I guarantee you will read it cover to cover....probably several times like me....when you read it creates so many visuals that you see it while you are reading it.
